Some outlook rules not working after migration a user to Exhcange 2010 and then back to ex2007
Hi All, Iv moved a mailbox to ex2010 and then back to ex2007. (we are in the process of migration, so we're testing all of the possible scenarios) Here is whats happening. I have server rules on the mailbox that work and some that dont work automatically (all of them work when they are run manualy). The ones that work are moving mail from authetificated users to diferent folders. The ones that dont work are supposed to move mail that comes from applications that send mail and do not autentificate. (we have receive connectors that we use for this) I'v tried: deleting the profile, deleting all of the rules and then recreating them, using MFCMAPI to delete the corrupted rules but it didnt help. The only thing that I see that the rules that dont apply automaticly are those that are supposed to filter mail from nonauth users. Any one has a cule what went wrong? Thank Zarko

Hi Could please have a look at the requirements in Move Mailboxes from Exchange 2010 Servers to Exchange 2007 Servers http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638124.aspx If it still happens, you can view the link below and follow the steps http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/questions/101-256348 Hope it works Cheers Zi Feng

Hi Perhaps you can try the same rule on a new created mailbox and check it works or not. Also sometimes Rules may become corrupted when you access them from multiple versions of Outlook If it is, please access rules only from the latest version of Outlook. Cheers Zi Feng

Hi Zi, We just tested the same scenario on a another mailbox, and it happened again. Rules worked on 2007, moved the mailboxc to 2010 they still work. Move the mailbox to 2007, rules dont work anymore. If we move the mailbox again to 2010 they work. Zarko

Hi I searched the forums and found several articles which got the same situation like youthe most similar one is “Outlook Rules Stopped After Mailbox Exchange 2010 back to 2007”, the link is: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/7aa65e21-edee-4e09-87b1-c14c05f32aa9 Maybe you can try the steps listed on that page. Also if your movement is migrating across the forest, it will be a problem when doing that. Cheers Zi Feng

Hello All, I am having the same exact problem as ZarkoC. I used my mailbox as a pilot for our new EX2010 system (bad idea!). I had use the MFCMAPI tool to delete all rules as the link indicates and it didn't fix. I then moved my mailbox back to EX2010 (2nd time) and the rules work again. I move mailbox back to EX2K7 and they don't work. The exchange systems are in the same forest. I'm running Windows 7 and Office 2010. I hope someone finds the answer soon! Hope this helps, Sacju

Start on Ex2007 and Outlook's rules work. Move mailboxes to Ex2010 and they still work. Move the mailboxes back to Ex2007 and rules will only work when run manually. Did you get any useful response from Microsoft?

I've been having a hard time reaching the support guy. No solution yet. Maybe next year, LOL! We'll I finally gave up on MS support. I just exported my mail to a PST, created a new mailbox and imported my PST. Of course, now my rules work fine again. It appears that once EX2010 stamps the rules they will not work going back to EX2007. Sacju

Zarko, My workaround -fix was export current mailbox to PST, delete the mailbox, create a new mailbox, import PST, then create new rules all over again. Of course, that would not be a good solution for a large number of users.Sacju

We think we've now found a fix for this. Here's the steps: Logon to OWA Disable junk email filtering and save that change Re-enable junk email filtering, and save again This fixed it for us. It looks like junk filtering (which also works like a rule) was the cause, at least in our case. If it's the same for you too, your rules will magically come back to life! Matthew

One of my colleagues had noted an increase in spam since we moved the mailboxes back to Exchange 2007 from Exchange 2010. Spam processing works in a similar way to a rule and so we made the assumption that spam processing was also broken, in the same way that 'normal' rules broke, when migrating back to Ex2007. He was trying to fix the spam by tinkering with his settings and suddenly announced that his rules had started working again. The rest of us then tried the same thing... Matthew

Thanks Matthew! Your fix worked for us as well. We were in the same boat: Went from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 and then back, and rules stopped working. I find it interesting that the fix is to change something in OWA--which is something I almost never use--to get the rules to work properly in Outlook.

You may fix the rule by running New-mailboxrepairrequest, if you migrate the mailbox to Ex2010. Once the rule is fixed then you may move the mailbox here and there. It should be good.Vishal Bajpai MCP,MCSA,MCTS,CCNA,CCNP

On this issue: We are currently planning to release a permanent fix for this in the next rollup for Exchange 2007 (SP3 RU7). If you need the fix in the mean time, please call Exchange support and get an interim update.
