Some email delayed, sometime reboot server would solve the issue..
Hi all, Our company have SBS2003, and lately we been having problem sending out email to others.. As you can see, we have messages that just been queued up inside of exchange.. user would get a delayed email notice about them. Weird thing is most of the time, if I reboot the server, the email starts to flow again. I've tried just to stop and restart the SMTP virtual server, but it just won't do the trick. I've noticed it does it most with overstock.com and verizon.net , but a lot of time is to other email as well.. My setup is T1 -> Sonciwall T190-> SBS2003, DNS, DHCP and everything is managed by the SBS2003. Under the Exchange, and SMTP protocol, I have the relay restrction set to allow the list below, and I have to set my server internal IP under it, and chcked "allow all computers which successfully...." . Domain : test.com MX record: mail.test.com I've check the reverse DNS, and it seem to be fine. I did a reverse DNS lookup and here is my result. Host Type Value 186.165.70.216.in-addr.arpa PTR mail.test.com Is the host part suppose to say mail.test.com or is that fine ? Here is a screen shot of the stuck emails .. I did some troubleshooting via smtpdiag..seem to be fine.. I think the connection to those mail servers were okay, but somehow within my sbs2k3 , something it's holding it back.. I know I can setup a trace, but the issue is this doesn't happen all the time, it happens randomly, it could be fine for weeks, and then it will just stop working and email would get stuck again.... Anyone able to help ?

Hi , Have you check these things ? Servers -> SERVERNAME -> Protocols -> SMTP -> Default SMTP Virtual Server -> Properties -> Delivery tab -> Advanced -> Configure This configure allows you to specify “external DNS servers”. Apparently, based on the name, someone thought the real “external” DNS servers should be used (instead of the local DNS service that uses the external servers as forwarders). I hope this will help you if not than let me know please. Regards. Shafaquat Ali.M.C.I.T.P Exchange 2007/2010, M.C.I.T.P Windows Server 2008, M.C.T.S OCS Server 2007 R2, Phone: +923008210320

You don't need to have any of the relay settings enabled - certainly do not need your server's own IP address listed, nor does the allow all machines that authenticate need to be enabled. That can actually cause problems with an authenticated user attack. If you manually telnet to the servers of either service provider on port 25, does the connection go through? When you select the queue, does it give a reason in the message box at the bottom? Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Should I put something in there? Like my FQDN mail.test.com ? Thanks,

Yes, The message says The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt for one of the email. Like I said, right now it seem to be working, I don't see message stuck in exchange, but I know it will start doing it, but I just don't know when.
