Slow Attachment receiving in Exchange 2007 - FIXED
Since moving from Exchange 2003 on Server 2003 we have had random issues with Exchange 2007/Server 2008 and attachments. text only emails are fast and responsive from all domains Small attachments, under 100K, seem to only take a few minutes. Large attachments, above 1.5MB, will often not be accepted and generate a 4.4.2 Connection Dropped message. We spent hours on the phone with MS support and they blamed our Network, NIC, Firewall, gremlins, etc... I did a lot of searching on the net and found that many people are experiencing this issue and that most have been unable to resolve it. I found a thread about setting the tarpitinterval 00:00:00 and tested it on the clients server - fixed the problem completely. With it set to a ANY value other than 00:00:00, the larger attachments just die - the exchange diagnostics show that the data is corrupted and requests that it be resent - on the senders side it appears that the the message never leaves the sending queue and eventually dies with a NDR. So, the fix was to enter this command and then restart the transport service: (command is broken across two lines since I use a real Usenet client with 72 character line limit) Set-ReceiveConnector "Internet Receive Connector" -tarpitinterval 00:00:00 Hope this helps others.
