Skype for Business not working with APPV 5.0 SP3 for Microsoft Office 2013

Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting the new Skype for Business to work in an APPV package. I have followed the MS recommended method  that uses the Office Deployment Tool. There were some issues with the configuration.xml file but once they were sorted out the APPV package worked well.

After deploying to a users desktop there are no issues with any of the Office products except for the new Lync or "Skype for Business 2015". When I try to run I get an error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application."

I have checked to make sure the Reg key NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation is set to 2. Any ideas?

Hi,

Maybe we can get some userful information from the event logs to determine the cause:

Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter.

Browse to Windows Logs -> Application, find the error about the issue, and you will get the logs.

To protect your private information, you can send the logs to our email address:

ibsofc@microsoft.com

For easy tracking please add the thread url in the email.

I am having the exact same issue. I built out the APPV package as outlined by Microsoft. All parts of the Office suite work except for Lync (Skype for Business). What was the eventual fix?

I found the problem and a solution and wanted to post in case anyone else has any issues in the future.

So the issue ended up being that I have been running Windows 10 Insider Preview. I navigated to the location of the Lync executable (in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\ folders) and changed the compatibility for Lync to windows 8 and now it operates correctly.
