Skydrive sync without getting Skydrive Hyperlinks

Is there any way to use SkyDrive ONLY to synch One Note? The problem I'm having is once SkyDrive is used, any time I create a link to a specific paragraph (which I use all the time), it converts the link to point to skydrive...even though I am using the OneNote application. So, whenever I click on the link from the OneNote Application, it opens a browser and goes to the page on SkyDrive. Is there a way to make the link "local", like it does if you are not using a shared notebook synced with Skydrive?

I've read the related articles/posts to skydrive synching on this forum, but did not see anything related to this.

Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry, I haven't seen the problem you mentioned. In my test, I created a link to a section in the Notebook which is saved in SkyDrive. No browser will be opened when I click on the link.

Can you describe some more detail of the issue? Does it occur with new created Notebook?

Hi Rex- thanks for the reply. My guess is that you created a link to a section. That DOES work correctly and creates a "One Note" link to your local notebook - something like OneNote: Name of Notebook #Name of Section. To repeat what I am seeing, try creating a link to a paragraph. So, select some content on a page, right click and select Copy Link To Paragraph. Then go to a different page (actually can even be on the same page), select some text, right click and select Link... In the Address box, right click and paste. This will paste the link to the paragraph that you created earlier. Look at this link (press the Home key to get to the beginning). You will see that the target is something like: https://skydrive.live.com/edit.aspx/Folder Name/Name of Document.

And when you click on that link, it will open a browser, go to Skydrive, etc. This is the problem I am trying to get around. I want this link to be a OneNote link instead of a Skydrive link.

And to answer your question, this happens in ANY notebook (new or existing) as long as it is shared via SkyDrive.

Thanks for investigating this.

Hi,

Your question:

Answer:

Yes, there is a way for this to only go to the local drive vs. on SkyDrive.  Later if you want it to go to SkyDrive, then you can change the Notebook to reside fully on the SkyDrive.  If for now, you want the whole notebook (all sections) to reside locally, then there are some steps that can take you there.

I was not certain of, is the version of OneNote that you are on.  Is it OneNote 2013?  This will help further in providing those steps.

If it is OneNote 2013, then you will need to Move your notebook vs. File |Save As (Onenote 2010).

I would do is a sync so that SkyDrive has the latest updated version of it is on SkyDrive.   As per the steps, you can Move the Notebook per this link:

Add_back_to_this_http
-->>>office.microsoft.com/en-us/onenote-help/move-a-shared-notebook-in-onenote-HA102938201.aspx

Or, you can File | Export | choose in the #2 .onepkg, and export the file to local drive, i.e. C:\MyDocuments or folder of your choice.  Once its pops up a dialog box, you would do is click on the button Create, and it will create a onenote package in the folder.  Once it is done, then you can close the Notebook currently that resides on SkyDrive.  Go to the folder where you exported the .onepkg, and click on it.  OneNote file will open into OneNote and be locally on the computer vs. on SkyDrive.

To verify that location, right click in OneNote on the Notebook name, and choose Properties.  This will have a Location:  and show the path to where you have it on the local drive.

Also, when you create new, it defaults to SkyDrive.  You would need to click on New, then change it to Computer, which would create a new notebook on the local hard drive than on Skydrive.

Hope this helps,

Thank you,

Scotland

Thanks for the reply Scotland. Perhaps I am missing something, but when reading the post and the content on the link provided, this converts it from being on Skydrive at all, right?

What I want to achieve is as follows:

Computer 1-> one Note-> create content and links (OneNote: Name of Notebook #Name of Section)

Synch to Skydrive

Synch from Skydrive to Computer 2

Computer 2-> one note->click on link and have it reference the local one note page as indicated in the link above.

Currently, this does not happen. In step one above, when you create a link to a paragraph, it creates the target as skydrive (however, it does not do this for sections, or pages).

So, I want the functionality of sharing via a network drive (which does not convert links) with the synchronization capabilities of Skydrive.

Thank you for continuing to work on this! Much appreciated. It's caused me MANY headaches trying to figure this out.
