Single server migration from Win2003 AD and Exchange 2003 to two VMWare virtual Win2008 R2 servers (one for AD and one for Exchange 2010)
We currently have a single Win2003 server with AD, DNS and Exchange 2003. We are migrating the a VMWare environnment with seperate 2008 R2 servers for AD/DNS and Exchange 2010. Any advise on the best way and steps to accomplish this would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

Did you think to look at this: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/Exchange_2010_on_VMware_-_Best_Practices_Guide.pdf It contains all you really need to know. This looks to be a guide to setting up the VM environment for Exchange 2010. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough but we already have the virtual environment setup and the VM servers loaded with Win2008 R2. I need help understanding the process to actually migrate the existing AD and Exchange to the new AD and Exchange on the new servers. Thanks.

1. It shouldn't really be any different, just make sure you have speced up the new VM accordingly and you have read the pre-reqs of exch 2010. There's a lot of information on technet which would be pointless pasting into a post, the below will get you started. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638130.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/exdeploy2010/default.aspx 2. For the AD stuff, youre better off posting in the AD forum - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/threadsSukh

Yeah, the procedures are entirely the same. It doesnt matter that the target domain/forest is virtual. "Sukh828" wrote in message news:b138d906-ef20-48f2-a377-dc0c4ec03e3c... 1. Its gonna be fairly straight forward : 1) ensure AD is in 2003 native 2) Bring up exchange 2010 VM, migrate mail accross (ensuring a full migration plan is created) 3) remove exchange 2003 out of domain and off of the old box 4) Add new 2008 R2 DC and upgrade DC level to 2008 R2, demote and remove old 2003 DC componentStew
