Signing in to Word/Excel with an apostrophe in the username

Hi,

Hoping someone can confirm/advise on a problem I'm seeing with a user trying to sign in to Word with their Office 365 account.

The username has an apostrophe in it i.e. fred.o'connor@xxxx.com and when the user tries to sign in to Word they get a message stating "there is a problem with your account. Please try again." or words to that effect.

Is that a known issue? If so, is there any way around it short of removing the apostrophe from the username?

It's not an issue with Outlook, that works fine. Just other Office apps.

This relates to the client version of the apps not the online versions.

Any advice would be appreciated.

NB: For questions relating to the hosted/tenant aspects of Office365, the dedicated Office365 community is more likely to be helpful.
