Should I defrag first or check integrity first?
Because two days ago I've got this "bad" mailbox in the private storage that I can't purge, I think maybe I'd need to do a defrag and an integrity check. Actually, I've done a defrag to both public and private stores few years ago, but since I could only do it manually and it took very long time (about 18 hours), I couldn't defrag it all this time. I'm wondering if I should defrag first or check integrity first. I suppose I can't do both at the same time, right?

Thanks for your reply. My private store DB file is corrupted! :( (cf: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/9184713a-2c0a-48c9-8ee4-4054083d0884) I don't know what I should do. Should I still defrag the private store database?

When I use "Exchange Server Database Recovery Tools" as keywords in Google, I got a lot of partial matches. Which one do you mean exactly?

This explains how to restore a database if you backed it up with ntbackuphttp://www.petri.co.il/restore_exchange_2000_2003_with_ntbackup.htm

Error 0xfffffc07: It indicates logical corruption on the database. So the best option is to restore from a good backup taken on a date before event 1203 started as J-H suggested And another method is to perform repairing on the product database as you used. The procedure shall be: a. Dismount the database and backup an offline copy of the Priv.edb and Priv.stm on a possible location that has enough space b. Perform hard repair->offline defrag->Isinteg on the product database Notes: Users whose mailboxes are on the database wouldnt be able to access their mailboxes until you complete all the 3 offline processes and mount back the database

I've got a streamer and ArcServe and full backup. I had already tried to recover that backup from tape, but the database file state is "dirty shutdown" or something like that. And there's no log files. Really stupid, really rubbish software! For the record: to my surprise, there are actually two "integrity checks". One is "eseutil /g" and one is "isinteg". It was the former one I referred to. MS articles didn't give much help to new users who are reading their articles for the first time. Very confusing. Can't they unify tools? Or at least, can't they be more consistant in the naming and avoid using the same word in different situations?
