Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Setup could not retrieve the schema master domain controller information from Active Directory.
Trying to install Exchange Server 2010 on a Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. I keep getting failed messages. Maybe a Exchange Gruru can help me out here. So far no luck.
What I have: This is a 2 server environment I'm working with. One is a Server 2003 SMB SP2 running Exchnage Server 2003. The other is a Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. Basically I want to install Exchange Server 2010 on the Server 2008 R2. I want them both to
work with the same domain. This is what I'm Getting:

What I have done:
Tried Transfering all Domain Operations Master rolls to the Server 2008. No joy in resolution obviously.
Tried a different administrator account. No Joy
Tried runas using the FQDN as admin. No joy.
Ideas?

After a bit more troubleshooting, I enabled Net TCP Port Sharing. No joy
Tried both my ISP given DNS and my local DNS server. Disabled IPv6 as suggested in other google searchs on the same issue. No joy

Hi
Check the FSMO roles on domain controller and run the prepare schema on Primary Domain Controller which holds Schema master.
Please Run Setup /PrepareSchema before starting the setup. What is Functional Level for your Forest and also run Exchange Best Analyzer.

Hi
I agree to what Hussain wrote, check the FSMO roles and check so the schema master server have the appropriate SP level
Then run in the command prompt instead to check if anything goes wrong and in that case, what step that goes wrong and post it in hereJonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog:

Hi,
have you raised domain and forest functional level for New exchange2010 at Old exchange2k3? Check it. Second things it seems your exchange is not able to contact to your dns and AD. Run
nslookup on New exchange box and see is it able to resolve name server.
Thanks

Alexxe , I was facing the same before.
To resolve it , go to Services.msc , Search for Net.Tcp post sharing...Change the start type to "Automatic" , Click "Apply" , Start the Service.
It should resolve take care of the issue that you are experincing,
