I have been trying to update Exchange 2007 SP3 rollup 2 to SP3 rollup 3. I set an elevated command prompt by doing: Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories. Right-click Command Prompt, click Run as administrator and ended up with the same result. Once I start the installation, The User Account Control dialog box comes up and I click "Allow". Then I accept the terms of the installation. It then computes space requirements, stops services, rollsback the actions and gives me the original problem again. Any further thoughts? Thanks.

Rebooted the server? Have you tried to install the update from Microsoft Update rather than a manual download? Tried another copy of the manual download if you insist on doing it that way? I will try to reboot the server and then reinstall the manual download. I have administrator rights but don't know if that is good enough. Rollup 2 for SP3 installed fine through WSUS but rollup 3 does not show up in WSUS to be installed. That is why I did the manual download instead. If the way I did it could be an issue let me know. I will let you know once I reboot and try the manual download again. Thanks for your help.

Is your WSUS configured to download updates for Exchange? It was released to automatic updates last week. I don't think the update has been withdrawn - that is the case with Exchange 2010 SP1 rollup 3, as it caused problems with BES. It appears that they put a Version 2 of Exchange 2007 SP3 RU3 for a manual download. I tried again and no luck! Anywhere else to look as to why this is happening. Its the same error as before - simply access denied. That would point at the account you are using not having the required permissions. You shouldn't need to disable UAC to install the updates - you can try. Is there any particular reason why it must be installed and you cannot wait until Windows Update presents it? Automatic Updates runs in the relevant context - I don't think I have ever installed a rollup manually. I always do it through Microsoft Updates.
