Setup GAL as default
I've Exchange 2007 SP2 and Outlook 2007 SP2. All the clients are setup in Cached Mode on he LAN. They have their Address List setup as default. Now I've setup GAL as the default but none of the clients gets updated tyo GAL ans still shows the Address List as their default becuase they are in Cached Mode. AS soon as I un-check the CAche Mode the GAL appears as default. When I put it back to CAched Mode it show the old Address List. how do fix it ? thanks.

Hi Vministrator, Sukh gave some good usggestion. open outlook tools -> address book -> tools -> options you can set the "show this address list first" Regards! How is your OfflineAddressBook configured? Can you run get-offlineaddressbook | fl Name,AddressLists and post the output? I suspect that you don´t have \Default Global Address List specified Martina Miskovic

Hi Vministrator, Per my know, it is a outlook feature, and could be set by the users per their prefer. Actually for exchange 2007 and outlook 2007 scenario, the issue is a outlook related issue; for exchange 2010, it seems that you could do it on the server. Some information for you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300592 And there is also a registry could control the setting, but per the user ID, you could put the issue on the windows server forum, and get some script solution to map the scirpt for every users. Per my know, changing the registry is not supported by MS, because it is not contained in the outlook ADM. And Martina's suggestion also could be the reason, because you create a new GAl, may be the OAB(cache mode used) not contained in the OAB. If so, you'd better to reconfigure the OAB, and update the OAB on the client end. Regards! I get the list of all three OAB when i ran that command. Then in each OAB under Organization Configuration-Mailbox I've setup only the Default Global Address List.

Ok, that´s good. If you just changed the setting for OAB it sounds like the clients has a problem to download the OAB or there is a problem with the generation. Is WebDistribution enabled? Has the clients downloaded the OAB-files since you made the change? Martina Miskovic

yes WebDistribution and PF both are enabled. I did manually downloaded the Address Book but no change. When I setup the same user profile on a different computer i see the Default GAL is the default one. so there is something wrong or permanantly cached.

When you manually downloaded the AB, did you check if was successfull? Remove the OAB-files from the users profile and try again.Martina Miskovic

yes it goes successful everytime but has the old stuff. I did remove it but same thing. The other day I tried uncheck the cache-mode and it worked but I don't wanna do that across the organization. I think it will be suggested option to Exchange Team to come up with some solution or Outlook option to delete the cache or locally stored files. What I'm trying to achieve is reduce the manual work involved , reduce the IT admin work.

Ok, after using Outlook in online mode, it worked with cached when that was checked? Is there a good reason for why you have 3 OABs with the same setting? Is the webdistributionpoint beeing updated correctly? Check in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\OAB Aslo check for eventid: 1008 in the Application Log Martina Miskovic

Hi Viministrator, Hope you have viewed my reply above, the default address list first is controed by the outlook 2007 client end, There is a registry to control it. launch the regedit, the path: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2146773085-903363285-719344707-889717\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook\9207f3e0a3b11019908b08002b2a56c2 01023d06 key There is no direct way to change all the settings on each client end due to the setting configured before exception use the group policy(scripts) to do it. In my opinion, we could send a intructions to the users, tell them how to change the adress first list.; or use a new outlook profile to make a test. Regards!
