Setup Child Domain to use Parent Domain Exchange Box
I have a Domain abc.com with an exchange server running in the forrest, what i have done is add a child domain ddd.abc.com and what i am trying to do is set the child domain with the capacity to add a user in the child and have the user utilize the email user@abc.com in parent. We are running E2k7 on the parent domain and obviously are not running any exchange client on the child domain, I can't for the life of me get it to work. I have ran a setup /preparedomain on the child server but when the job completes i get an error "Can not find the Recipient Update Service responsible for domain 'DC=ddd, DC=abc.com,DC=com'. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Please post the entire error message. Does it say that setup completed or not? I believe the message about the Recipient Update Service is a warning. Preparing a child domain has nothing to do with e-mail addressing. The users in the child domain can use the same domain as the parent domain, or they can use a new domain. However, you must tell Exchange that you have a new e-mail domain with a command like the following. New-AcceptedDomain -Name DDD -DomainName ddd.abc.com After you issue this command, users in either domain, not just the child domain, can be assigned an address in the ddd.abc.com domain and receive mail for it. You might want to rethink whether you even need a child domain.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
