Setup /m:RecoverServer

I am in the process of rebuilding some servers and I wanted to know if it was possible to upgdae them at the same time.

For example:

Server1 was running Exchange 2013 SP1 CU7.

Server1 had windows reinstalled and but the object was left in AD.

Server 1 Joined back to domain

Can I run the setup.exe /m:RecoverServer from the CU9 and in effect recover the server and upgrade at the same time?

Hi.

If you want to restore a version CU9, you must have completed the setup prepareschema and preparead.

setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
check replication
setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Thank you for both of your replies, however I believe I may have done a poor job explaining the scenario. Because the question wasn't answered that I intended to ask. I have a working exchange server. I need to rebuild the os. I've done that and kept it at the same os version. I've rejoined it under the same ad account. Before I reinstalled the os, the server was running 2013 cu 7 My question is, can I use the cu9 bits to run the setup.exe /m:recoverserver? I can't find any clarification on if it has to be the exchange build number when performing a

Hi,

I agree with Oleg. Please make sure the server on which recovery is being performed must be running the same operating system as the lost server. In other words, please keep the same windows operating system for Exchange 2013 CU9 with CU7.

Then try the following steps:

1. Reset the computer account for the lost server. For detailed steps, see Reset a Computer Account.

2. Install the proper operating system and name the new server with the same name as the lost server.

3. Install the necessary prerequisites and operating system components (Exchange 2013 CU9). For details, see Exchange 2013 system requirements and Exchange 2013 prerequisites.

4. Log on to the server being recovered and open a command prompt.

5. Navigate to the Exchange 2013 installation files, and run the following command:

Setup /m:RecoverServer /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

6. After Setup has completed, but before the recovered server is put into production, reconfigure any custom settings that were previously present on the server, and then restart the server.

I agree with Oleg.

This issue is an old story for previous exchange server but, you should be able to manage this task in Exchange 2013.

Moreover, while need to restore the required data back into Exchange 2013, you may also give a try to this automated solution that could be a better alternative approach to deal in such circums
