Setting up Exchange via 360 account without your own domain name

I've been trying to set this up for two weeks now and can't seem to get it working. I have paid for an exchange account, I've created the user, I've assigned the user the license, and I have verified that I am able to get into the account through OWA. But I can't seem to get it set up with Outlook.

Here are the steps I have been taking:

1. Go to the mail setup tool

2. Choose "Email Accounts..."

3. Click on "New"

4. Type in the user's name in the name field and the e-mail address (user@mydomain.onmicrosoft.com) in the address field.

5. Put in the password in the password fields.

When I click Next, I am prompted for the password again. No matter how many times I type it in, it asks for it again (as if it is not accepting the username/password). I have changed the password to something simpler to see if it helps, but it doesn't. When I give up and cancel putting in the password, I get a "The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable" error.

I have also tried putting in the settings myself like this:

1. Choose exchange

2. Under server, type in mydomain.onmicrosoft.com

3. Under user, type in user@mydomain.onmicrosoft.com

This always results in an immediate "The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable" error as soon as I click next.

As part of the troubleshooting process I have verified via ExRCA that a connection is successful. I've also tried through a vpn in case it was an issue with the network; that didn't help.

I'm completely stuck at this point and close to abandoning the service before I end up paying for another month that I am unable to use.

HELP!

What plan are you using? If you are using any of the Kiosk plans, you cannot configure the mailbox in Outlook using Exchange mode, you will have to use POP/IMAP.

Does your username match the email address? Those can be different, and you need to provide the correct username and password when asked for credentials.

What are kiosk plans?

I have Exchange Online Plan 1.

Username and e-mail address are the same. In fact, I can log in using OWA. What I can't do is get it working in Outlook.
