Setting default program (.PDF) disappeared after log off and login again

Additional information:
2 Terminal servers
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

Customer opens an attachment from Outlook 2010 and every day the customer needs to choose the default program.

I have tried to save the .pdf attachment locally, right click, choose default program and choosed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and the .pdf opens. But the problem is when the user log off and login again this setting disappeared so the users needs to choose every day the program to open the .pdf file. When I create a new user account in the same OU there is no problem, problem occurs on existing accounts. Local .pdf files also dont redirected to Adobe Acrobat Reader DC so it seems the default program for .pdf isn't applied but is set in the configuration...

From server level I have configured:

Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program
.pdf is configured for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document
is configured with EditFlags: 00 00 01 00 (Disabled "Always ask before opening" dialog)

Group Policy
Navigate User Configuration > Preferences > Control Panel Settings then right click on Folder Options and Navigate to New > Open With.. tried this on user level and domain level...

Somebody have a solution?

Hi supraindo,

Based on your description, your users needed to choose every day the program to open the .pdf file. If this issue only appeared in .pdf file? And you said in a new account it works fine, have you ever check the permission of the users? I wonder to know did you get any messages in a dialog box.

First I suggest you run gpresult/h report.html in the Command Prompt window to save the report in HTML format at the location and with the file name specified by the <filename> parameter. To check the Group Policy settings in your system.

Then if you get any messages in a dialog box, please provide the whole messages or you can upload a shortcut so that I can any information about your issue to help you solve your problem.

Please try to these methods and lm glad to help and follow up your reply.

Hope its helpful.

Hi supraindo,

You could upload the file via OneDrive to share the link of this file.

https://onedrive.live.com/

When you upload the file to OneDrive successfully, right click the file and select Share, then get a link and create a link. You can copy address of the link and post it here.

If possible, you could send this file to our email address:

ibsofc@microsoft.com I'd like to check it.

Hope its helpful.
