Set up User Principal Name in OWA for Linked Mailboxes
Hi All this is my environment:
I have a Active Directoryresource forest with exchange 2010 and I have another Active DirectoryAccount Forestwith Exchange 2007. There is a trust relationship between both forest.
The domain FQDN for the AD resource forest isexchange.local
The domain FQDN for the AD account forest isacme.local and the smtp address for all users in Exchange 2007 isacme.com
As part of the Migration Procedure I ran this Exchange 2010Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1which creates the disable accounts and then enables as Mail Enabled Users.
Then I run ADMT to patch the SID History.
Finally I create theLINKEDmailbox to the accounts in the Active Directory Account Forest
In Exchange 2010 set OWA Authentication as UPN, but these users can not log in with their email addresses so I ran get-mailbox users1 and his UPN is
isuser1@contoso.com. What is more I checked the User Logon Name for this user in Active Directory Snap-in and his User Logon Name
isuser1@contoso.com while his User Logon Name in Active Direcotory Account Forest isuser1@acme.local.
Any Ideas?

Hi Jose,
A linked mailbox is a mailbox associated with an external account. The resource forest scenario is an example of when you would want to associate a mailbox
with an external account. In a resource forest scenario, user objects in the Exchange forest have mailboxes, but the user objects are disabled for logon. You must associate these disabled user accounts in the Exchange forest with enabled user objects in the
external accounts forest.
when you create a linked mailbox, the user account (isuser1@contoso.com) is disabled in the AD forest, so you cannot use that account (isuser1@contoso.com)to login,
you need use the master account (isuser1@acme.local) to login.
Since you set OWA Authentication as UPN, you can just use
isuser1@acme.local and this account’s password to login the mailbox(isuer1@contoso.com).
Thanks,
Evan
