Server side rule - Exchange 2010
Hello, I've read some information on server side versus client side rules and I'm unsure which type of rule this would be. I have a rule that moves all emails from a domain to a folder inside a mailbox. My understanding is that you need to have a contact created for the sender to make this a server side rule - however I am forwarding all emails from a domain to a folder so I can not create a contact for this. Can anyone tell me if this is a server side rule? And if not, is it possible to make it a server side rule? Thanks

Upto my Knowledge its no way possible to do it from a Server Side rule. Its purely something to do with the Outlook. Regards Satheshwaran Manoharan

If the rule is client only then it will say so in the Outlook rules manager. If the email has to be opened to be processed, then it will be client side. However you would have to do a rule where text appears in the sender field and enter the domain name. A quick test here shows that it does not create it as a client side rule. You don't need to have a contact created. Most of my rules have no contacts created and work fine. Simon. Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.
