Server Processor
Hi, stupid question here: concerning server processor hardware is 2 socket 24 core the same as quad core? I'm a bit confused I guess what exactly quad core is in this respect. If 2 socket 24 core is not quad core what would it be considered then? Thank you.

The socket is the actual physical processor socket on the motherboard. Most servers have either 2 or 4 physical sockets. The processors that fit into the sockets can have multiple processor cores (usually range from 2-8 cores per physical processor). So a 2 socket - 24 core server (in your example) would have 2 physical sockets, each socket filled with a 12-core processor for a total of 24 cores. A quad core is one physical processor with 4 cores.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com
