Did you check if affected user's mailbox has Retention Policy or ManagedFolderMailboxPolicy applied ?

Nope.  We are all good on both of those fronts.  I am convinced this user did a shift+ something and cut or moved them or something but I don't know how to find where to.

thank you for your suggestions.

Hi,

In Exchange side, please run the following command to check whether this problematica mailbox is applied with a specific retention policy:
Get-Mailbox Test | FL Identity,*retention*

If there is a retention policy applied, please check the details about it:
Get-RetentionPolicy -Identity "Delete 1 years ago" | FL

In client side, please do the following steps:
1. Click File > Cleanup Tools > Archive...
2. Check Archive this folder and all subfolders, click Browse to locate the default archive file location.
3. Locate the path in File Explorer, and open the archived file in Outlook to check whether the deleted items are saved in this file.
