Sending under one of your other SMTP address (FROM)
Hi there, for as long as I can remember, I (well not just I - the internet is filled with people) have been frustrated about Exchange not allowing one to send out under his/her own other addresses. As I'm still (after >15 years!) stumbled by disbelief on this, I'll ask yet again. Is there - by now (only been waiting for over a decade) - finally a solution to send under ones other addresses? I mean, one that isn't a pain to maintain, or doesn't cost you 100-200 euro's a user (seriously - who comes up with prices like those for a plugin that only changes the from address)? Of course I can just click from, type in another address that belongs to my mailbox and have it returned by exchange with the message I don't have permission to send under that user (I am the user ffs...). Seriously people have been bitching/whining/crying and perhaps even jumping out of windows in sheer disbelief of this imho MANDATORY option lacking for ages. Yes, I am aware of adding additional SMTP accounts and allowing relaying - it's a friggin' pain to maintain. Yes, I am aware of plugins too - but why would I want to pay for something this essential and what am I going to tell my customers? Something along the lines of "Microsoft has kept their heads up their asses for over 15 years now, so yea, you have to pay good money for such a basic feature that even most web-based mail systems support by default"? Yeah, that'll sound good. I'm quite sure they'll invest in a heartbeat now. But seriously... even web-based e-mail like google mail allows you to select a from address. Heck - I'll bet even hotmail does it (I don't have an account). If that isn't a clear sign of how important this option is, what is? So please, please tell me there's some obscure option I've been overlooking for 15 years and that it's all my fault. It would definitely make my day. Please don't take this personal... I've done my best to remove as much frustration as I can, what I actually want to write you wouldn't even want to show to your dog... and he can't even read. I am very much aware of articles like: http://exchangepedia.com/2007/04/how-to-send-as-alternate-email-address.html - my real q is more along the lines of when will ms pull their heads from their asses and stick the 'by design' argument in there instead. But as usual with companies like this, I probably don't have to expect a response. They haven't for >15 years, so why would they now.
