Sending email from scanner to/thru exchange 2007 sp2
Running Exchange 2007 sp2 on Windows 2008 sp2. Have a Sharp scanner in which i need to be able to send emails thru the exchange to the outside world as well as internal. Do i need to setup a receive connector to accomplish this? If so, how would it be set? Last time i tried, no scanned documents where going anywhere. Currently the Sharp scanner is using our unix email system which we are trying to get away from. Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes, you will need to set up a new custom Receive Connector. On the permissions tab, only select anonymous users. On the network tab, enter in the IP address of the scanner in the Remote Network Setting section. To allow anonymous relay (which isn't enabled by default) then run the following from EMS: Get-ReceiveConnector "Receive Connector Name" | Add-ADPermission -User "NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON" -ExtendedRights "Ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient" More details: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232021(EXCHG.80).aspx Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

I'll look at giving this a try. Not sure when, that scanner is actively used - which makes changes hard to perform. Thanks for info.

You don't need the scanner to do this. Create the Receive Connector and make it work using an IP address on a desktop machine that runs Outlook Express and uses the Exchange server as it's SMTP server. Once it works you just have to add the IP address of the scanner to the set of allowed IP addresses. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Dear franky34, Receive connectors enable the Exchange Transport Service to accept messages from SMTP based messaging system in your organization. As you described, you want allow your fax to relay off the exchange server to outside world, so you need create a new connector and configure it correctly, that’s maybe why you can’t receive your mail previous. 1. Input your local network address and port. 2. Specify the Remote Network address which including your fax machine’s IP address. 3. In the “Permission Group” Tab, select “Anonymous users” checkbox. 4. As “anonymous users” only provide three permission, they are: “ms-Exch-SMTP-Submit” “ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Sender” “ms-Exch-Accept-Headers-Rounting” you need add “ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipent” otherwise the fax message can’t be sent out of your organization. Use following sentence from EMS to add permission. Get-ReceiveConnector "CRM Application" | Add-ADPermission -User "NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON" -ExtendedRights "ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient" You can got more detail information from : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232021(EXCHG.80).aspx
