Sending and Receiving email from internet. Do i need SMTP server?
Hi, could anyone help me or illuminate me regarding the above subject. I had a design for small business and i used Exchange server 2007 for emails. I have to activate it to and frm the outsideworld so i can receive and send emails from the internet. My point is, upon reading the process/guidelines from Microsoft technet, i've read that one requirements after setting MX record and Host A record is to build up an SMTP server which would handle the email exchange from the internet. I'm bit confused then about SMTP, is it another server i have to install in different computer? or is it already available from my CAS or Hub transport that only i have to do is activated by adding it from the windows 2008 features? These confusion arouse when i'm going to publish it, i need to put the smtp server address? which is which? Is Client access server has already smtp server? and is CAS is the same as SMTP server? please can you help me for this and appreciate much if you have further explanations. Thanks in advance.

th HT will act as your SMTP server, just publish your domain at your ISP and put MX in it. Hi Krisna, thanks for your prompt reply. It means that i don't need to add smtp from the windows 2008 features in HT computer? I will verify it and look in to it. Thanks.

Hi I'm bit confused then about SMTP, is it another server i have to install in different computer? No It is just function of exchange. or is it already available from my CAS or Hub transport that only i have to do is activated by adding it from the windows 2008 features? You needn’t add any function of Windows 2008. These confusion arouse when i'm going to publish it, i need to put the smtp server address? You should put your smtp server address as MX recorder to your DNS provider. Is Client access server has already smtp server? and is CAS is the same as SMTP server? Rich has answered this question.
