Sending an E-mail to a Distribution List
I have created a global Distribution list called payroll and have associated an e-mail address to it. there are several people in the list. if I am in my private network where there exchange server 2003 is residing I have no problems sending e-mail to the distribution list. if someone from the outside try to send an e-mail to the smtp address of that distribution list it does not come through. any thoughts on this

Hi, In Exchange 2007 DLs have a flag "All Senders are authenticated", so if this option is enabled then outside users cant send email to this DL. Check properties of the DL on Exchang Server, I guess there is any resembling setting for DL in Exchange 2003. If its there disable it. Hi, This is the excerpt from an MS document: Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 has a new feature that permits mailbox users or distribution groups to only receive e-mail messages from authenticated users. This feature permits you to restrict inbound Internet e-mail for specific users or for distribution groups. The feature is enabled when you click to select the From authenticated users only check box in theMessage restrictions settings for an individual user or a distribution group Plz see this to disable this property for exchange 2003 DL: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/827616?p=1 Regards, Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com

in AD under the Message Restrictions I have the From Everyone Radio Button clicked. therefore I assumed that it should get mail from everyone outside. even with this on it still doesnt work Have you performed following steps: Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers. Right-click the distribution group, and then click Properties. Click the Exchange General tab. Under Message restrictions, uncheck From authenticated users only check box. These steps are mentioned in the article mentioned in my last email, but for selecting the property. Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com
