Send on Behalf/ Send As a Distribution List
Hi Experts We are running Exchange 2007 SP3 in our environment. We have Distribution List and Mail enabled Security groups. I'd like to know if it's possible to 'send on behalf' or 'send as' a distribution list/ mail enabled Security Group. The Technet article here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124955(EXCHG.80).aspx indicates that we can at least 'send on behalf', but there is no mention of 'send as' and whether this applies to a Distribution List or Mail enabled Security group. Does anyone know? And does this change with Exchange 2010? And, finally, is it possible to swap between Distribution Lists and Mail Enabled Security groups? Not sure what the benefit of having a DL actually is?

You can grant send as permission via ADUC. Open Distribution Group's Properties, switch to Security Tab, add user\security group and grant its Send As permission. Notice, that Information Store cached information from AD about 2 hours. If you want force your changes - restart Information Store service. In PowerShell you also can grant send as permission: Add-ADPermissions -Identity <Distribution Group> -User <User\Security Group> -ExtendedRigths Send-AsMVP Exchange Server from Russia http://okrylov.wordpress.com

Hi, You can configure ‘send on behalf’ permission and ‘Send as’ permission to make others represent the Distribution List or Mail-enabled Security group to write or reply emails. For the detail steps, you can refer to the article ‘Assigning "Send As" Permissions to a user’, which is also apply to DL. In Exchange 2010, it is possible to swap between Distribution List and Mail-enabled security group. You can refer to the following steps: Go to ADUC->select ‘Advanced Features’ in the ‘View’ tab->click Users->select Distribution Group you want to change in the right window->right click Properties->change Group type to ‘Security’ or ‘Distribution’ As for the benefits of the distribution group, enterprise admins only need to assign the permission to the DL and the members will gain the permission, which will make admins manage more conveniently. And if others send emails to the DL, the members will receive it. Obviously, the DL has many advantages. So, the reasonable distribution group indeed brings lots of convenience.Hope this helps. @Sophia - The answers provided by the above are quite clear, if the OP has difficulties understanding the replies or did know how to perform such task they would reply back. All I can see is that you have repeated what has already been answered. In addition to that, there are another 3-5 posts I have commented on where you have done something similar. In one after several days sicne I replied, you inserted the same KB link as mine but disgusied your link by renaming it! - Expalin this? and the other posts? Also define comprehensive as you see it , dont a copy and paste from the Oxford dictionary or Google. Sukh
