Send as acting when On Behalf Of permission
Hi, I am having a real issue with the following situation: we had a user (X) who was a delegate on someone else's ( Y ) mailbox. However, when sending messages, the user X could send a message as Y, but without the 'on behalf of' option, but straight as that user - as ifit had Send As permission on Y mailbox. I have checked Y mailbox in AD, both in Security and Advanced Options, and did not find anything related to user X having Send As permission. I have also checked all the groups that X is part of, none of them has Send As permission. Also, user X does not have Full Mailbox Access on user Y mailbox. The situation above stopped when I removed user X from the user Y account properties in Ad, from the Exchange General > Delivery Options > Send on Behalf of section. So it looks to me that the delegate Send on Behalf Of permission has been replaced somehow with the Send As permission. Has anyone experienced this situation? And does anyone know how it could be resolved? Ioana

It is confusing for sure. Are we dealing with Exchange 2k3 or 2k7 here? To "send on behalf of", you check the box in the user properties. To "send as" you need to modify the ACL on theexchange user. Send As permission behavior change in Exchange 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895949 "Send on behalf" permission is not assigned to a user after you delegate access in Outlook http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329622 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915358 A hotfix is available to change the behavior of the Full Mailbox Access permission in Exchange 2000 Server

Many thanks Mike. We have Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003 clients. I have applied the hotfix KB895949 - it has completely killed one of the cluster nodes in our Development environment. Microsoft do say that this hotfix has not undergone regression testing so I guess it would be wise to wait until the next SP comes out. We had only one user who experienced this situation...
