Search for mail in Outlook 2013 does not have all emails in result.

Hi, we have a user that tries to search for a sertain mail in her mailbox, and when she searches, a few mail comes up, but the one she knows is there, and that fits the search pattern, is not listed in the results.

We have tried to reindex the database the user was on, we have moved her to another database, and none of these have given us the result we want.

We have also removed the checkmark in "Search" in Outlook for "Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown".

If she does the same search in OWA or Outlook 2010, the result is as expected, but in Outlook 2013, it is not.

Has anyone experienced this, and if so, what could be done to solve it?
Google(Bing) produces very little results that are relevant to this for me.

Hope someone here has an answer :)

Hi,

Do you see a blue "More" if we scroll to the end of the search results? If so, please click "More" and then check if you can see the certain mail.

I asked this because if we set the "Mail to keep offline" slider to a short time, it will show a limited searching result, even you have the "Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown" unselected.

In addition, this issue may also happen if there are some corruptions in the Outlook data file. To verify this, we may try to exit Outlook, find the OST file you are using, and then rename it to .old. After that, restart Outlook to sync a new one and test the issue again.

If the issue still persists, we may consider to rebuild the indexing to see the result. To do this, please follow these steps:

1. Exit Outlook and open Control Panel.

2. Change the "View by:" to Large Icons, then find and open Indexing Options.

3. Click Advanced button to open the Advanced Options dialog.

4. Under Troubleshooting heading, click Rebuild button.

Please let me know the result.

Thank you for the reply.

We do not have the "More" link in the bottom of the search, and if we do, the missing mails are still not showing up.

This is also in a citrix environment, so we use the Outlook in "Online Mode" so the mail to keep offline does not apply to this.

We have rebuilt the users profile, moved her to another database to index her again, but no luck so far.

Thanks for the update, Tore Melberg.

If you are using Outlook in "Online Mode", the search feature passes the query to the Microsoft Exchange server, utilizing the index available on the server. However, there is no issue when searching in OWA, so, the index on the server is fine.

I'd like to know if this issue only happen with the particular email message? If we search for other email messages, will Outlook 2013 and OWA return the same results? If so, we may try to have the user forward the particular email message to herself, and then try searching for the particular email to see the result.

Please let me know the result.
