Search Exchange 2007 For TO & SUBJECT
I have what I would think is pretty generic question, however I'm a newbie and don't want to take any chances. I'm looking to do a search on my entire Exchange box for a specific recipient. For example I want to find every email that was sent TO: John Smith or I would like to find all email that was sent TO: *.ibm.com. How can I run this search in Exchange 07?I've tried Message Tracking and while that does show me the generics of an email message this isn't 100% what I need. Two problems here. #1) I can't see the actual email, just the some info on subject and when it was sent. #2) If the logs only go back to a certain date, you can't search beyond that.We need to search every mailbox on the company's Exchange server for mail from/to a specific sender and about a specific subject. Unfortunately message tracking doesn't give me that information (unless I'm missing something which is quite possible). There could be an instance where John Doe has an email dating back to June 08 in a folder in Exchange that we need to see, however the log's only go back to October 08. How can I see that email?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,Which version of Exchange do you use?~ Message tracking logs shows certain information of any emails which were traveled into your Exchange organization but not full email item...~ Additionally, message tracking logs are configured to store for certain dates, if you want to see older information then you needed to archive message tracking logs to some safe place for future use.Well, about searching emails in all mailboxes and extracting those to some place, you can use ExMerge (in Exchange 2003) or Export-Mailbox (in Exchange 2007) based on your search criteria to some mailbox or PST file and you can review at the end.Limitations:~ I guess, exmerge doesn't search emails based on from/to address. But if you have Exchange in coexistence (Exchange 2003+ Exchange 2007) then you can use Export-Mailbox cmdlet on Exchange 2003 mailboxes also.~ These search options show currently available message into mailbox and doesn't show message if it is deleted by user.Using EXMERGE To Delete Message From Your Exchange Server (This is an example to delete message and you need to choose to copy messages instead of archiving when that step comes)http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF013.htmlHow to Export Mailbox Datahttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266964.aspxDon't forgot to get approval from compliance/security team of your organization to scan all mailboxes for legal use :) Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
