Search All Mailboxes
I have an issue at hand. I need to be able to search all of the mailboxes that are on the company's Exchange 2003 server. I need to be able to search mailboxes that have emails with key words or phrases. I looked at ExMerge and that does not look like it will work. Does anyone know of a third part solution or any other way of accomplishing this?

ExMerge should work fine - why did you think it wouldn't?

ExMerge works at a per mailbox level not at a message store. You can use the Message tracking if you knew who was sending or receiving mail for the last x amount of days.Mark Morowczynski|MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:ES, SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Because I don't see how you can search word in an email using ExMerge. Plus I didn't find any MS articles stating that searching inside of a PST with ExMerge was possible.

Look here for some information on searching (and removing) mail messages across an entire databasehttp://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF013.htmlYou never mentioned searching inside a PST.

Karl,Yeah, I did forget to mention the PST portion in my question. Sorry. I will take a look at the link that you provided me. Another issue I am running into with extracting with ExMerge is permissions. I have been trying to run it under my domain admin account but the log file states that I do not have permissions to access the mailboxes. Isn't there supposed to be an Exchange account for all the mailboxes because I am not seeing one for the mailboxes on my Exchange server.

The only thing that I have found to search for specific words inside of a mailbox or pst file is a third party software that costs way too much.

Hi, For exmerge tool, please understand we could only use Exmerge to search key words in Subject Line and not the body of the message. If you would also like to search key word in message body in users mailbox, you can consider the following workaround: Build a recovery server and drop the exchange databases and mount the store. Then expose the M drive and make sure you can access all mailbox folders using explorer. Drive M Mapping to IFS Is Not Present by Default in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821836 Note: You will be required to give yourself send as and receive as permissions at the store level in ESM in order to access all mailbox folders using explorer. Then search in explorer for any string under the MBX folder and it should return all mails that has that string. Mike
