I just updated to Windows 10. My MFC-J435w printer prints but will not scan what can I do.

Hi,

As far as I know, this issue usually caused by the printer driver incompatible. We can see the KB of printer provider:

Then, I do not find the driver for Windows 10 yet, thus, I recommend you re-install the Windows 8.1 driver with Windows 8.1 compatibility mode.
