SP1 installation fails on Exchange 2010 ...
Hi
I tried (more then one time) to install the SP1 on Exchange 2010 without any success. After I downloaded and installed all the necessary files, I started the installation of the SP1. After several minutes, the installation fails with following error maessage:
Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
if (get-service MSExchangeServiceHost* | where {$_.name -eq "MSExchangeServiceHost"})
{
restart-service MSExchangeServiceHost
}
" was run: "Service 'Microsoft Exchange Service Host (MSExchangeServiceHost)' cannot be started due to the following error: Cannot start service MSExchangeServiceHost on computer '.'.".
Service 'Microsoft Exchange Service Host (MSExchangeServiceHost)' cannot be started due to the following error: Cannot start service MSExchangeServiceHost on computer '.'.
Cannot start service MSExchangeServiceHost on computer '.'.
After this error, OWA is not working anymore, the exchange console will not start anymore, and so on ...
Or in other words: after this error I have to run a full restore of the whole server:
My system is as follows:
Windows 2008 R2
Exchange 2010
Forefront Protection for Exchange Server

You've found an error that doesn't have an article written about it. Don't worry though, help is still available. The forums are the best place to start.
Ask a question in the forum!
Has anybody a tipp/help for me, how to solve this issue?
Thanks a lot for any help

Hi Markus
Have you tried the suggestions in this blog (setting the services to manual)?

Hi,
First please try to disable Forefront first and then apply sp1.
How to use the Fscutility.exe program to disconnect the Forefront Security services from Exchange Server or from SharePoint Portal Server

Microsoft Exchange Services Host depend on "Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology", so please check event log to see if any related error event has been logged there.

Hi
I try (next night) a combination of this two proposed solutions:
Right after the nightly fullbackup is done, I:
- disable Forefront with the Fscutility
- try to change the services to manual (as descripted in the link from Alexei's post)
I post the result after all is done.
In the meantime, thanks a lot for your support!
