SOME Images in Outlook 2013 not showing until clicked on

I am currently having an issue with HTML Email Stationery in Outlook 2013 (Windows 8.1 and possibly Windows 7).

Some background:

  • Email Stationery uses images which are stored on a web server.
  • Images are accessed non-https.

When an email using the stationery is received in Outlook 2013, half the images display, while the other half do not (done the whole click to display images thing).

You can make the "broken" images display by either simply clicking on the "broken" image, or by opening the email in its own window, instead of using the reading pane. The issue only appears to occur in the reading pane.

Once you have "enabled" the image by either clicking it or opening the email in its own window, we don't seem to have the trouble again with the images and it just works going forward.

Any suggestions on how to fix this in either the email stationery itself, or on the Sender's computer to make the images always display?

I've only experienced the problem in Outlook with a handful of different stationery templates I've created - most are okay, its just the odd one that decides to play up.

Hi,

Are those working stationery templates been created using images stored on a web server? If we create the stationery using images that are stored locally, will this issue continue?

How did you create the HTML Email Stationery in Outlook 2013? Since this problem only happens with a handful of different stationery templates that you've created, then have you tried recreating these problematic stationery templates? Please also have a look at the following article and verify if you have followed the correct steps:

Yes the images are stored on a web server.

Storing the images locally will not work in this case. With past versions of Outlook i.e. 2007, 2010 it was possible to, and Outlook would embed the images so the client receives them. In Outlook 2013 when storing images locally, Outlook keeps the local path reference and won't embed the images for the client to receive them without a registry hack, thus the email recipient only sees broken images.

I can also verify that the template is stored in the correct folders as per the above link.

The issue is odd- they do work, however its just the very first time the image loads in Outlook on that computer that it doesn't. As mentioned above, simply clicking/selecting the image makes it show and the image works forevermore thereafter on that computer.

It also happens when reading only in Outlook 2013. Every other version of Outlook and other email clients don't have the issue at all.

Thank you for the update, Samuel. I've involved someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue, and we want to confirm following information to help narrow down the issue:

As you mentioned, the images in the Email Stationery are stored on a web server and that its just the odd one that decides to play up, so, for the image of the odd one email and the other images of most working emails, do they have the same path on the web server?

Does the image displaying in reading pane issue occur if we receive the email created by inserting the issue image not using an Email Stationery template?

Does the issue occur on other computers Outlook? Please have a test and let us know the result. If the web server where you store the images can be accessed by external resource, would you please send an HTML Email Stationery that has the issue to us for further test? You can send it to us via GBSD TN Office Information Collection ibsofc@microsoft.com. (The email subject should be the thread link)

Thanks,

I had this issue and removing the align html attribute from the img element solved my problem.

This worked for me too, and thankfully the image still aligns in the right place so problem solved :)
