SMTP queue problem
Hello! I've got a problem that started about a week ago. My SMTP queue is kind of crashing and all outgoing emails are stacking up. I tried cleaning up the queue but the problem is still happening. However, I just recently found out that this crash only happens each time someone sends out an email with a mispelled or wrong address. That email then receives a retry status and nothing moves afterward. Does someone knows what to do in that situation? I also tried rebooting the server but the problem keeps happening. It's as if the server was suddenly too stupid to manage an email with a bad address and just keeps sending it... Thanks for your help people!

Also, when I put my cursor on the SMTP queue, there's this message: "Connection failed because of a sink event on SMTP protocol"

Hi, From your description, I assume that you have Exchange 2003 installed. You encountered an issue that all the outbound email stuck in the remote delivery queue. In addition, you notice the issue occurs when someone sends a message with a wrong recipient email address. If I am off base, please let me know. Regarding the issue, I suggest you refer to following KB to troubleshoot the issue: How to use Queue Viewer to troubleshoot mail flow issues in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823489/en-us In addition, based on my knowledge, if we send a message with wrong recipient email address to remote domain, the remote domain should reply a permanent error (500) or generate a NDR message indicate the recipient does not exist after receiving the message. In other words, the message should not stick in the queue. The message may stick in queue when Exchange Server fail to connect to remote server or the remote server reply a temporary error (400). Therefore, it is hard to say whether the issue is caused by the message with wrong recipient address. I suggest you remove the message with wrong recipient address to check whether the issue can be solved. In addition, I suggest you check application log on the Exchange Server for more information.
