SMTP open relay
I am running exchange 2003. I have several email address in my outlook that are not attched to my server me@NOTmydomain.com and the 3rd party wont open relay through them for outbound messages. I move to 3-4 different sites per day at the moment i have to reconfigure my outlook everytime i move so i can send emails on all addresses Is there anyway I can configure my exchanger server to allow me to relay ooutbound mails through it for ALL my address without making it an open relay. If possible I would like to authenticate on outbound with my domain login details.

Hi, You can enable exchange server to only allow the authenticated users to relay the mails, then use POP account to relay off your exchange server: Step 1: ======================= 1. Open ESM, right click the Default SMTP Virtual Server and click Properties. 2. In Access tab, under Relay restrictions, click Relay. 3. Uncheck the option "Allow all computers which....", then click Users, mark the allow permission for Submit and Relay. Step 2: ========================== 1. Create a Internet mail (POP) profile to connect to your exchange server. 2. Click More settings, in outgoing server tab, select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication". Step 3: Send a relay mail from Outlook 2007 /2010 ================== 1. Create a new mail, click Options buttons, enable "Show From" button. Outlook 2003 does not support this feature. 2. Then if you want to send a mail by using me@NOTmydomain.com, you just need to input it in the "From" field. If you are using a exchange account, it will not allow to you specify a 'From' email address which is not existing in your domain. An error "You do not have the permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user" will be returned. If you add additional SMTP address to your account such as me@NOTmydomain.com, you are able to specify the address me@NOTmydomain.com as 'From' email address, but exchange will automatically change the ‘From’ field to your alias. This is why we need use a POP account. Does this method work for you? tried a test it shows in the recived email from me@mydomain.com on behalf of me@NOTmydomain.com exactly ehat I DONT want i consult for various companies any emails MUST onle be seen as comming from that customer not someone elses domain. Doing it this way will loose me my customer extremely quickly. I want the acount on my server to be allowed to relay anything i send to it using the login details from that account WITHOUT altering it in anyway and without it checking and refusing because it doenst match the domain or some other reason it can find not to relay. is there any way to achieve this please. I asked my customers if they would like this feature and I got a 94% yes they would.

I have exchange server 2003 In outlook I can set that my SMTP server requies authentication. Is there a way to set an individual exchange account that can act as an open relay, after it has authenticated with the exchange server the idea is for my laptop that has 14 different email accounts from diferent domains most not owned by me to be able to relay through my excchange server so when I move around so I dont keep having to reconfiguring the outgoing SMTP server. I go to roughly 4 different sites a day I dont want to use the "from" option in outlook because those recieveing the mail can see its from one email account on behalf of the other. I want the person receiving the email NOT to know the other email address

Hi, Please try the following method: 1. Create a new domain account with a mailbox, add the new SMTP address me@NOTmydomain.com to this user. 2. Remove its original SMTP address. 3. Open your outlook profile which hosing the account me@mydomain.com. Then add additional account me@NOTmydomain.com that we just created to it: a, Click Tools->Email Accounts. b, In E-mail tab, click New, follow the instruction to set up a account for me@NOTmydomain.com. Click More settings, in outgoing server tab, select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication". c. Then if you want to send a mail by using me@NOTmydomain.com address, you can specify it as the sender account. See the following picture. The recipient will not see the information such as " me@mydomain.com on behalf of me@NOTmydomain.com".
