SMTP address removed - how long to replicate in Exchange
Hi all,I have removed an SMTP address from a mailbox, as i want to apply it to another different public folder. Each time i try to add this email address to the new public folder i receive the message " the email addres already exists in this organisation". How long will it take until i can readd this address to another public folder? I can search ADUC and i can see the old email address belonging to the old mailbox, but when i check the properies of the 'email addreses' , the one i want to use is not there.Any help appreciated!Cheers,Grant.

did you tried forcing the AD replication? how many AD sites and Servers you have?Take the ldfdi dump of entire AD and check if any other AD object has the same address which you removed? You need support tool to run the below command... which you can find inside the windows OS disk CD/Support/Toolsc:\>ldifde -f "abc.txt"Open abc.txt and search for the email address you removed recently and check the attribute cn=xxxxxxxxxx@domain.com, if you find it that mean that email address is still there for that object.Do let me know the success :)Arun Kumar | MCSE - 2K3 + Messaging | ITIL-F V3

Gbug,Use ADSIEdit and open the properties of the AD Object that is associated to the mailbox in question. Check proxyaddresses and mail attributes to see if the email address you tried to remove is still there. If one attribute has the correct address but the other doesn't you can manually change it there.I assume if using ADUC you went to the objects "email addresses" tab and changed it there, so I am assuming you are on Exchange 2000/2000. AD replication shouldn't take more than 15 minutes in a normal enivornment quicker if you have enabled change notification. Sr. Exchange Engineer - Constellation Energy

The LDIFDE didnt come back with the email address , so i searched via ADUC using the custom LDAP search. I used the parameters "proxyaddresses=smtp:emailaddress@domain.example.com, which did show that the email address was attached to a public folder. However when checking the properties of this folder, the address did not appear. I deleted the email attribute via the LDAP search, and all is fixed.

Hello, when you take the ldifde dump, it dump the entire AD, schema attribute and values into the text file... so once you get that file you can se search for the email address... Like i want to search for an email id abc@contoso.com and wanted to check which object has this email addres.... so i can get that... But it is glad to know that the issue got resolved :)Arun Kumar | MCSE - 2K3 + Messaging | ITIL-F V3
