SMTP Subdomain creation
Hi, We have two domains, abc.com(exchange 2010) and xyz.com(exchange 2003). Most of abc.com employees are working in xyz environment and have accounts and mail IDs on both domains.Management decides to move these shared employees(accounts and emails) to xyz.com.On the same time they want to keep the abc.com identity. So they decides to create two emails for each(user@xyz.com and user@pqr.abc.com ) Any idea how to implement this? Do i need to create a trust or federation service? Thanks and Regards, Ranjith S.K

HI, Ranjith ,you can do that by the following : 1- change the MX record for the exchange 2003 domain to the exchange 2010 2- add an accepted domain in exchange 2010 for Abc.com domain 3- add the smtp address of abc.com domain for the users you want or create email policy and apply it on some usres for the second domain you can find the steps with more details in this article : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996314.aspx

Hi Ranjith, If you want users’ mailboxes on Exchange 2010 can receive emails for abc.com and xyz.com, you can just follow Moataz’s suggestion to achieve the goal. If you have any other requirements, please explain your problem in detail. Hi Ranjith, Could you explain your problem and requirements in in detail? If you only want shared employees’ mailboxes in Exchange 2003(xyz.com) can receive emails for abc.com and xyz.com, and these users still have mailboxes on the Exchange 2010(abc.com), you can follow these steps to achieve the goal: 1.Create contacts for shared employees, set the external email address (username@xyz.com). 2.Set users mailboxes on Exchange 2010(abc.com) forward emails to the Contacts. Then users’ mailboxes on Exchange 2003(xyz.com), can receive the emails send to username@abc.com and username@xyz.com. Thanks, Evan Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
