SCR and mixing Standard/Enterprise Exchange Server licenses
Hello, We're planning a migration from our *nix based mail server to Exchange 2007, and when it comes to licensing, I'm completely lost. What I'm looking for is SCR (SP1) between two servers (active/standby) to increase mailbox roleavailability and be ready for manual disaster-recovery failover, while it's still not clear to me if this feature will be available to STANDARD ED. too or ENTERPRISE ED. only and if I need a single or two licenses. Anyone? Plus, did Iunderstand correctly I need a license for everyserver that will be a role of the same Exchange instance? My two SCR mailbox servers would possibly both need an ENTERPRISE license while for other non clustered roles STANDARD edition would be more than enough to me. Don't know if I can add all roles but edge to a mailbox server running SCR. Anyone again? This said, can I mix ENT and STD licenses in a single deployment? Thanks

Lasse, Thanks for your reply, IMO it's a must feature that worths the money for Enterprise edition and also avoids the complexity of deploying and maintaining a MSCS, at least related to my small users base on a single AD domain (400 users). Anyway, found thispost[ http://forums.msexchange.org/m_1800450016/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#1800450637] and it seems to be a bit clarifying, even if unofficial. What about mixing STD/ENT licenses? We're going to deploy Exchange in a few weeks, I've planned to buy two ENT licenses for mailbox role (for clustering until SP1 goes RTM), and two moreSTD, onefor Edge and another for HT,CAS and UM. That's 4 licenses in total (2ENT+2STD)across4 physical boxes Would that work? Thanks again. J.

You can mix std and ent server licenses. HUB,CAS,EDGE,UM do not need to be ent. they work all OK with std license. The only server that benefiths of having ent license i MB server role

well, this seems finally official! Code Snippet SCR is available in the Standard Edition of Exchange2007 SP1. If a Mailbox server in an SCC or CCR environment is used as the SCR source, the Enterprise Edition of Exchange2007 SP1 is required because Enterprise Edition is required when clustering Exchange2007. If a standby cluster is being used as the SCR target, the Enterprise Edition of Exchange2007 SP1 is also required. source: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676502.aspx updated on 31/08/2007
