SCL Junk Email Threshold Query
Hi All,Just need some clarification over this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995744.aspxThis artcle says when the SCL value assigned to an email if greater than or equal to SCL delete threshold value it deletes the message, when greater than or equal to SCL rejetct threshold value it rejects the message and when greater than or equal to SCL Quarantine threshold valueit Quarantines the message. An excerpt for the above article: If the SCL value for a message is lower than the SCL delete, reject, and quarantine threshold values, the Content Filter agent does not delete, reject, or quarantine the message. Instead, the Content Filter agent sends the message to the appropriate Mailbox server, where the per-recipient SCL Junk E-mail folder threshold value of the message is evaluated. In my case there is no per-recipient SCL Junk Email Folder threshold value, inspite of which one or two odd emails which come from application through a recieve connectorare being categorized as junk email. These emails are coming from my domain itself but from an application. My main question remains the same: why emails are going to junk email folder when per-recipient SCL Junk E-mail folder thresholdis not enabled.Findmy mailbox details as per get-mailbox -identity xyz123 | flSamAccountName : XYZ123SCLDeleteThreshold :SCLDeleteEnabled :SCLRejectThreshold :SCLRejectEnabled :SCLQuarantineThreshold :SCLQuarantineEnabled :SCLJunkThreshold :SCLJunkEnabled :One more key point: We are not having edge transport server and SCL threshold values for reject, delete, quarantine are enabled on hub transport server.Excuse me for the ir-regular font and format some issues with the browser on my side.ThanksSivaram

Hi Sivaram, I suggest you run Get-OrganizationConfig |fl command to check whether SCLJunkThreshold is configured globally. For your reference: The Exchange 2007 Content Filter Agent http://www.exchangeinbox.com/article.aspx?i=104 In addition, please understand the Outlook has its own Junk Email evaluation feature. Important to note that this IMF/SCL related Store Action is totally separate from and unrelated to the Outlook client-side Junk E-mail evaluation. Therefore, to check whether Exchange server move the message to Junk Email folder, I suggest you close Outlook and resend the problem message. Then, please check the message by using OWA. Hi, Sorry for a very delayed reply. Yes i tried Get-contentfilterconfig and saw that CFA is configired global wide Name : ContentFilterConfigRejectionResponse: Message rejected as spam by Content Filtering.OutlookEmailPostmarkValidationEnabled : TrueBypassedRecipients : {}QuarantineMailbox :SCLRejectThreshold : 7SCLRejectEnabled : TrueSCLDeleteThreshold : 9SCLDeleteEnabled : FalseSCLQuarantineThreshold : 9SCLQuarantineEnabled : FalseBypassedSenders : {Emailaddress@applicatn.com} - Something which i did recently.BypassedSenderDomains : {mydomain.com} - Something which i did recentlyEnabled : TrueExternalMailEnabled : TrueInternalMailEnabled : FalseAdminDisplayName :ExchangeVersion : 0.1 (8.0.535.0)WhenChanged : 9/10/2009 1:36:59 PMWhenCreated : 7/19/2007 2:21:13 PMIsValid : TrueSeeing the above config i feel its enabled. However, there is some amount of discussion in my team about this being enabled or not as we do not see any thing in exchange management console. Thanks for the above article. However, how can iconfirm who is responsible for this behaviour of emails being categorized as junk. Is it CFA or is it client side categorizing? How can find it ?So, i tried doing the belowSet-ContentFilterconfig -bypasssenders legitimateemailaddress@application.comSet-ContentFilterConfig -Bypasssenderdomains mydomain.com.I am hoping this would resolve the issue. Lastly is there a way to generate a report of emails being categorized as Junk by CFA in exchange 2007. Once again to avoid the confusion, just want to say that we do not have edge servers. We are having only hub transport servers. Thanks Shiv

Hi All,Inspite of adding mydomain in the bypasssenderdomains i see some emails being categorized as Junk in outlook.Especially emails which are being generated by applications like status notifications are being catgorized as junk emails in outlook. As these are being categorized as junk inspite of having mydomain.com added in bypasssenderdomains list i assume this is client behaviour. Now,ithink i cansay the culprit is outlook. How can i improve the situation and reduce the number of false poitives. Please suggest.Lastly, i also want to know if CFA is enabled or not on our hub transport servers. If enabled why inspite of adding mydomain.com in bypasssenderdomains list why are these emails being categorized as junk. Thanks Shiv
