SBS 2003 hangs at startup after applying Exchange SP 2
Hello group!
Last weekend I have made an inplace upgrade from SBS 2000 to SBS 2003.
After a few hours, this upgrade completed without errors.
Following the upgrade I applied all Windows 2003 updates. Still no problem...
At last, I have applied Exchange SP 2 - again without errors.
To verify the health of the server I have made a reboot.
After a few minutes of "Applying computer settings" the harddisks finally stopped. I waited about 2 hours...
All I could do is a hard reset and boot to safe mode.
What I found out when in safe mode:
- The event log showed no eventsregarding MSExchangeIS, nor any failed services
- After setting the information store service to "disabled" in safe mode, the server reboots without errors
- When started with disabledIS, the IS service can be started manually without errors
To get rid of this behaviour, I have made a reinstall of Exchange with /disasterrecovery. Afterwards, everything was
fine.
But when re-applying Exchange SP 2 (without errors), this error comes up again.
I would be glad of any help.
My Google searches did not help me.
Greetings from Germany!
