SBS 2003 Clients email offline after server reboot
After rebooting my SBS 2003 server some clients in the office lose their connection to the Exchange server. With Outlook open the status shows offline. I have ALL clients set to Cached Exchange Mode. When employees complain that they are not getting mail, I see that their Outlook is Offline. I uncheck "Work Offline" and click send and receive and that usually takes care of it. But I'd like to find a way to restore their connection automatically.

Hi, I always check services after a reboot to make sure they're all running. There seems to be no pattern as to who loses their connection and it is multiple machines OWA is working. I have not seen anything in the client or server event logs related to this problem. ThanksBill Weeks

Hi Bill, Did you see any major event log in your DC ?. Is it happening regular basis when you reboot your SBS 2003 server. Please run netdiag and dcdiag againt your global catalog sevrer when you encounter such issue. Are you rellay not seeing any event related to store. I would suggest you to enable diagnostic logging for MSExchangeIS > Private store also, make sure that Exchsrvr folder is excluded from virus scan. Anil

Hi, Since we only discuss the Exchange issue on the pure Exchange product environment in this forum, I suggest you create a new thread in the SBS forum. Please understand that SBS Server has integrated all functionalities on a single box which will require the SBS related knowledge which we do not have enough resource. Thank you for your understanding. For your reference, I have enclosed the SBS forum link below: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/threads Meanwhile, I suggest you check event log on client and server when any events are generated for the issue. In addition, if the 9646 event is found on the server when the issue occurs, please refer to following KB articles to check whether the issue can be solved: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/07/18/446400.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842022/en-us http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830829/en-us Thanks, Novak Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Seems as though it could be related to DNS....When this happens please, try to flush & register DNS....& see if outlook comes online. Regards, Pushkal MishrA

ISA shouldnt be installed on the same server as exchange. I faced this problem many times. ISA may block RPC calls. MCITP Enterprise Messaging Administrator, MCITP Enterprise Administrator, MCSE, MCDBA

If OWA is working and they are receiving email when checking throug OWA, the something is blocking RPC. I would verify firewall on SBS Server is not blocking RPC. Could also be Antivirus software as most now come with some form of a firewall and verify your Exchange directories are not being scanned by AV client on the SBS itself.MVP Exchange Server

Are you describing a situation in which you rebooted the server, gracefully, with everyone logged out -- and when your clients next tried to connect, they couldn't? Or are you describing a situation in which you had to reboot the server while users were logged in & connected? If you reboot the client, does the problem persist?Lanwench ** Do not fold, spindle or mutilate. Fill in the box completely and erase any stray marks. Use only a #2 pencil.
