SBS2010- 1 VM for JUST Exchange / Sharepoint, 1 VM for everything else?
Hey everyone,
New to the forums, and I hope to stick around for a very long time!!!
The company I work for is currently going from sbs2003 to sbs2010 std, virtualized with vsphere.
The IT department is considering using:
1 VM of sbs2010 to run the company
1 VM of sbs2010 to run Exchange 2010
My questions are:
have you guys implemented this, what are your opinions about doing so, and where can I learn how to do it?
Thanks in advance =)

Hi,
I am not completly sure on this answer since I don't work much with SBS servers, but here it is anyway :)
SBS2011 (I assume this is the version you are refering to) needs to install Exchange and AD on the same server. You do get an extra license for virtual server, but most installation I have heard about this license has been used for either 32bit print
server or for a dedicated SQL server.
Hope this answer can be useful moving forward.

You can't have two SBS servers on the same domain. If you want to separate the roles then you will have to move to full product.
The usual reason for the second server licence when you purchase SBS premium only is to run SQL server. I haven't used anything else. A print server in an SBS deployment would be a waste.
If you are considering separating the roles out, then you have probably outgrown SBS and should start to look at the full product.

Hi NicholasHarvey,
Could you explain your problem in detail?
Do you mean SBS 2011?
You can know more information about SBS 2011 from this document:
