Room finder is not working
Hi everybody, I have created a couple of room distribution lists with several rooms for each one. It is working fine but when I try to open the room finder in Outlook 2010 is empty, there are no suggestions for rooms neither for hours. Although in OWA I'm able to see suggested hours. I've tried disabling cache mode in Outlook, updating OAB, rebooting the server but is not working. In other forums talks abou some wrong external address for the url ex.mydomain.com but I have no idea about it or how to change the address, what I have checked is that address is not pointing to my server, this could be the source of the room finder issue? How can I solve it? I'm just a noob managing Exchange server so I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance, lvaro.

Couple of questions. When you updated the OAB, where did you update this? On the server? If so, did you redownload it from the server in Outlook? (Send and Receive tab in Outlook, Click the drop down for Send/Recieve Groups and click Download Address Book.) If you click on the Address Book in Outlook and cuse the drop down where it says Global Address List, click on All Rooms and see of there are any rooms there.JAUCG

Hi JAUCG, I made the update on server, I'm trying to download in Outlook but the progress windows remains in "Establishing connection between Offline address book and Exchange". Although, when I clic on All Rooms I can see all the rooms I have created before. What else I can do? Kind regards, lvaro.

Try - Update-OfflineAddressBook -identity "Default Offline Address Book". Downloaded Offline Address book from Outlook..... Similar thread see if that helps.. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/3e5ec90f-17cb-4483-95bd-52a377d4db45 Thanks

If Amit's suggestion does not work, the next step would be to turn up the Diagnostic Logging on the OAB, update the OAB once more and check the Application Log for any error messages on the OAB generations. To turn up Diagnostic Logging on the server, go to the Exchange System Console, Expand Server Configuration and highlight Mailbox. Right click on your server and select 'Manage Diagnostic Logging...'. Once this is open, look for MSExchangeSA and expand that. Look for OAL Generator and set it to High. Accept the changes and Update your OAB. Then let us know if there are any errors in the Event log.JAUCG

In addition to running Update-OfflineAddressBook, you also have to run Update-FileDistributionService "CASName". Otherwise, you will have a new OAB sitting out there waiting for the FDS timer to copy it to the AB location. If you have multiple CAS servers, Update-FileDistributionService will have to be run for each CAS. RB

You can also restart the FDS service as well (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232155.aspx) for a faster update. Not all Client Access servers will copy the new OAB at the exact same time. There is a poll interval (the default is 8 hours) that starts copying if there are new differential files. The first poll occurs when the Microsoft Exchange File Distribution service starts. Therefore, unless the Client Access servers were started at the same time, the server polls will be different on each Client Access server. JAUCG

If you took yourself out of cached mode and you're still not seeing the rooms when you click the rooms button? Can you create a brand new outlook profile not in cached mode and double check? If it still doesn't show, can you open adsiedit edit, go to the properties of the mailbox and make sure the msExchResourceDisplay is set to "room"? If you've done migrations with GAL sync and later migrated the mailbox, the attribute will not correct itself and won't display in the rooms button. If the service won't start, you will have to reboot the server or kill the process linked to the service (Task Manager - MSExchangeFDS.exe). For the logging, its in the Application log on the server, go to Computer Management, Diagnostics, Event Viewer, Windows Logs, Application. Look for events with OAL Generator. Another, more basic question, is does this happen to everyone or just you? If just you, have you tried a new profile, have you tried non-cached mode, and have you tried this on a different computer? The reason he room shows up in 'All Rooms' is that this is a true view into the GAL and is not using the OAB. JAUCG

Hi JAUCG, I have updated the OAB and check the event viewer, no errors, just a warning event which id = 9359 with almost all the mailboxes I have, I dont know if this could be related. After the update I have started the FDS Service and I have tried to download the OAB but I can't. Answering your questions, this is happening with everyone. Anyway I have tried in non-cached mode too but same issue, i'm not able to download the OAB... Regards, lvaro.

About event id 9359, we don't ha to worry, reason here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dgoldman/archive/2009/12/01/please-read-events-9320-and-9359-on-new-installation-of-exchange-2010.aspx Regards, lvaro

Hi amit79, Following the OAB tutorial from msexchange, org you linked me, I think I've found something weird. I have checked when I make an update to the OAB, the files are updated physically in their folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ExchangeOAB\GUID folder) but, when I run the update-filedistributionservice cmdlet, none of the files in that folder are sinchronized (C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\OAB\GUID folder). I get an error running this cmdlet but I have checked the events (setted up at high level through EMC for FDS) and I have the typical events, 1025, 1024 and 1008. Anyway something is wrong because files are not updated... Regards, lvaro.

This might work for you. Make sure you have a backup of the directory before attempting: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrdeploy/thread/4654cb29-9177-4b4d-9e6a-3573b01709fa/JAUCG

Hi, Finally I've found the solution, looking around CAS configuration I have noted which was the external URL for OAB, I'm connecting through http and that URL was not registered in my dns. Now that URL is pointing to my server and OAB is able to be downloaded by my clients. Thanks to you because I have realized that following your suggestions. Best regards, lvaro.

I recently had an issue with one particular Room List not showing up. It turns out that was because the group was set as aSecurity group in Active Directory, not a Distribution group!Thom McKiernan (UK) @thommck | thommck.wordpress.com | MCSA | MCTS
