Restructuring Exchange 2007 Mailbox Role
Hi Guys, I'm on the process to restructure our exchange server 2007 which currently holds 1279 users. The current exchange has got two Storage Groups and each Storage Group has got one Database. Both of these DBs are pointed to the same LUN along with their Logs :) I'm thinking to create separate SG based on user's profile, High, Normal and Low; High = 2048 MB x 25 users = 75 GB LUN for DB & 18 GB LUN for Logs Normal = 1024 MB x 50 users = 50 GB LUN for DB & 15 GB LUN for Logs Low = 500 MB x 75 users = 40 GB LUN for DB & 13 GB LUN for Logs The above SG will be having three Databases each points to it's own Log drive that comes from another LUN, or shall I put DB and Logs on same LUN for this SG???? ======================================================= Also, for the reset of the users who are not heavy, I will give them only 100 - 200 MB capacity This will holds the remaining users 1129 or more. I'm intended to do the following; SG-1 will have 2 DB each DB will have 180 users which will endup having three Storage Groups, each SG will have 2 Databases. Each DB will points to it own LUN and Logs in the same LUN or shall I create different LUN for Logs to holds all the Logs for all the Storage Groups? Thanks,

Hi, Design your LUN size using the storage calculator http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Exchange-2007-Mailbox-ca00a684. Always keep DB & Logs separate LUN, if we are keep both in same LUN then failure on the LUN volume will affect whole data. If have CCR then you can both DB & logs in Same LUN. But for better performance keep it separate only.Rgds, S Kannan

HI Kannan, Thanks for your reply, I used the Exchange Calc and I ended up having 32 LUNs and 32 SGs. The problem I have is the SAN Storage is limited as other VMs running on this SAN. Enclosure1: 4 x 133 GB SAS Disk, I can use the first 4 disk as the EMC SAN is using them. It left me with 8 x 268 GB SAS Disk. Enclosure2: 12 x 402 GB SAS Disk, where other LUNs are configured to run other VMs. Any suggestion in here?

Hi, Add Additional HDD in Exchange Mailbox Server & Use it. Exchange 2007 Supports on JBOD also or Direct storage also, it doesn't required SAN Box Rgds, S Kannan
