Restored folder deleted in Outlook
Hi Environment is Exchange 2007 SP2. Outlook 2007 SP2 clients. So last week a user, User1, wanted a restore of a folder they had accidentally deleted a month ago. The deleted folder was called 2010Finance. I used Exchange 2007 RSG to recover User1's Inbox to a special recovery mailbox we used. I then had a look around and found the 2010Finance folder. Once found, I checked all the items in there were ok and then I copied the folder to User1's live mailbox (which I had added to my Outlook profile). User1 was actually on holiday all this time, so I checked it had copied ok and left it. Today, User1 logs on and says the folder is not there! Can anyone explain how that could be? Anything to do with running in Cached Mode etc? No problem to re-copy it, but anyone know how it could have been deleted?

I'd check a couple of things, yes cached mode my be affecting it if he isn't waiting long enough for his full folder to sync. When you copied the email into his folder were you in cached mode? Perhaps you should re-open the mailboxes you were using and confirm the profiles are fully synced with the server. It wouldn't have deleted anything automatically. You can also check to see if he has any filtering or archiving going on. Finally do a full search on the mailbox, maybe the content was accidentally copied to the incorrect folder and it is just a matter of finding it and moving it. Thanks, Jorge R. Pancamo, You may also want to use OWA and check to see if the folder is actually in the mailbox. Also try to create a new profile to so you can rule out any possible folder view problems or corruption. As Jorge mentioned there may be some filters in place that is affecting the folder views.

Hi Panmaco, In this case, there are few things to be checked. first, check whether the user permission on the Public Folders. Whether the user has rights to post messaged/contents to a Public Folder. Second: Once you ensure that the Public folder is synced to Exchange, Check for replication of that "2010Finance" in Public Folder Management Console. Check whether the Exchange Server is listed in Replication list.(By default, when you use Outlook, it should automatically sync and create replication). ***In short*** for the "2010Finance" Folder there should be Self Replication, which would help in listing of PF in OL Clients. In any scenarios, you can use the Tool PFDAVADMIN to check for permissions, DACL rights and add replications to Public Folders. Let me know if this solves the issue.

Kathrick, Public folders aren't in play in this situation. RSG's are a totally different animal: http://www.petri.co.il/using_rsg_in_exchange_2007.htm Jorge R. Diaz, PMP, CCNA, MCSA, MCSE, MCTS Senior Microsoft Consultant Planet Technologies, Inc. Check out My Blog!
