Restore messages from backup media to Exchange 2007 CCR
Hi there, Before I post my question, I would describe the setup of my firm's Exchange2007, please bear with me. We have 4 exchange servers, 2 running CAS/HUB and 2 running mailbox roles on CCR. We have 5 storage groups in our Exchange mailbox server. Since all our messages are stored in mailbox servers,I will focus on that. We use VSS copy to backup the 5 storage groups of mailbox server every night and the copy will be overwritten 7 days later. Recently, my boss asked whether we are able to recover some messages from a user's mailbox ( from a NAS, which is our backup media )which is part of the storage groups of my Exchange 2007. Hope my question is clear enough and seeking advice on how to do restoring of messages from VSS copy. Appreciated.

Depends on what the software is and how it is configured. If you are using Symantec for your backup solution, they have an option for granular backup and recovery. So, the first question, what product are you using for backups?JAUCG

Hi, If you have a good backup of your databases, you can recover it to a Recovery Storage Group and then extract the data you need. A recovery storage group (RSG) is a special storage group that allows you to mount mailbox databases and extract data from those databases. RSGs enable you to recover data from a backup or copy of a database without disturbing user access to current data.Martina Miskovic
