Restore Email w/Exchange 2003 and no Recovery Store?
Hey everyone. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this but say for instance a user accidently deletes all emails in their inbox and had absentmindedly held the left SHIFT key while doing so. The user has tried to recover the deleted items using the Deleted Items Folder and the menu option to Recover Deleted Items to no avail (obviously). There's nothing I can do to restore her emails right? We currently do not have a Recovery Store running. Is there anything I can do?Thank you.

If you have deleted item retention enabled and its under the time set for deletion, you can still recover those items as long as the as the user hasnt also cleaned out the dumpster.Shift-Deletes are hard deletes, meaning the items will be recoverable under the Inbox in this case.If you are using Outlook 2007, check the Recover Deleted Items option when in the Inbox. ( Not the deleted items folder). If this is Outlook 2003 or older, use the DumpsterAlwaysOn reg key to recover.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997155.aspx How to Recover a Deleted Item

Thanks for your help. Using Outlook 2003, does it matter that the registry key wasn't used before the items were deleted? I think it willbe a little complicated because we're running Outlook within a Citrix Desktop just to add that point.

You can add the registry key anytime and you can do this from any client as well. The key simply makes those hard-deleted items visible and recoverable.

Ok that makes sense. I'll have to enable it on a Citrix (Terminal Server) and it should have the same effect. I dont think enabling it on a local client that uses Terminal Server to access Outlook 2003 will work.
