Reset all Outlook clients to First-run

Hi all,

We are currently preparing a company rebranding, and something that did look simple as first, looks like it is quiet a challenge! :)

Our company email address is going to change, all set and ready, but now, we want Outlook client to either display the new email address (our current setup for all user) or change the display name in Outlook to let's say their Username or full name.

Fastest way for us to do this company wide, as far as I can see, is to run Outlook on the day as a "first run", and if possible, to have this pushed by Group Policy.

But we cannot find a way to do this, all attempts are failing, or are simply not practical for a large amount of users.

Any ideas or pointers?

Or even easier, a way to change the display name in Outlook only without doing a first run that can be pushed company wide?

Thanks a mill,

Fred

Hi Fred,

If you want to restore Outlook to the 'first run' status, you need to remove the Outlook profiles for all users.

Since the profiles information is stored in the 'Profiles' registry key, we can configure a Registry Item to remove the key:

Outlook 2010 and earlier version:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

Outlook 2013:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profiles

To create a registry item, you can refer to the following KB article:

Or, you can consider to use a .prf file to modify or overwrite your Outlook profiles. For your reference:

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for the info. We did indeed tried to change the registry settings on clients PCs, but they did not worked for some reasons on 2013 clients.

I haven't tried for 2010 I have to say, but I believe for these, we can do the change manually within the client itself (that's our "Plan B" with a how-to for users) if we cannot push the changes by GPO.

I give it another go now, and play with the PRF files.

Many thanks again,

Fred
