Reply-to address on Exchange 2003 comes up with IMCEAEX format.
I am running Exchange 2003 and I have one particular user (among hundreds) who's getting NDRs every time he responds to one person. The reply to address shows up as IMCEAEX-_O=COMPANY_OU=XXXXXXX_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=XXXXX@XXXXX.local. I have checked the global address list and I didn't find it there. any help would be appreciated.

Looks like hidden delegate. Check the complete NDR and at the end of the NDR, you will see the original recipients list. Find out if this non-existent address shows up there.

Check to see if he has a local contact for this user and verify that the email type is set to SMTP and not HTML; or just delete the contact. Also try deleting the nickname cache, when he composes the email and starts typing in the address and it starts to autocomplete the address click the delete button.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Hi, Is the user deleted and recreated before? I suggest you refer to the following article to create the new X.500 proxy address on the problematic user to check the result. http://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/exchange-e-mail-addresses-and-the-outlook-address-cache/ Thanks. Novak, Thanks. I believe the user was. But the strange thing is it only happens coming from only one sender in the Exchange organization.

Do you mean that the symptom only occurs when certain user send message to the problematic recipient and all other Exchange users can send the message to the recipient well? If so, I suspect the issue can occur if the sender is blocked by the recipient. You can check the recipient’s Delivery Restrictions in ADUC or check the “Blocked Senders” option in Junk E-Mail Options in Outlook. Thanks. This is likely an issue on the client side - probably the user is using autofill and the exchange account got saved in the cache with quotes - like 'user@example.com' instead of being user@example.com. Try deleting the users .n2k file and try again or type in the address manually instead of using autofill.
