Replication of 2003 Public Folders to 2010
Hi, Hope someone can help. I currently have Exchange 2010 and 2003 coexisting seemingly happily and I seem to have mail flow between the two boxes working. I am trying to replicate the Exchange 2003 public folders onto the Exchange 2010 box but I am having trouble with this. I am right clicking on one of the folders, clicking Manage Settings, Modify list of replica servers, Add servers and then add in both the 2003 & 2010 servers. When I do this it completely cripples the flow of mail through the 2003 server - nothing gets delivered or sent and I get hundreds of entries in the 'Messages Pending Submission' queue that seem to be related to the public folders and they have a subject of 'Folder Content Backfill Response. I have now noticed this morning that all of my Public folders have suddenly appeared in the 2010 Public Folder Management Console but if I try to get the content of a folder or update the content it throws up an error: Cannot start content replication against public folder 'folder name' on public folder server 'exchange 2010 public folder db name' I guess my questions are why does adding replica server to the public folder cripple the server and fill up the pending submission queue, and how have my folder suddenly appeared on the 2010 box when some of them have not been told to replicate and why can I not view the content of the ones that are there? Sorry for the mound of questions. Thanks, D

If you replicated the top level folder and all sub folders, this would cause this. Depending on the amount of PF data, this will cause PF replication messages in the submission queue (depending on the PF repl state). As a simple test, create a PF on 2003, put an item in it, let it replicate to 2010 and see if you can access it.Sukh

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I have found that if I try to replicate too many folder (and their subfolders) at one time then I encounter the problem with mail delivery being affected by replication messages. I guess I will have to do them one by one. Thanks, D

That is expected, there will be loads of backfill requeste and content replication messages.Sukh
