Removing public folders from Exchange 2007, revert back to 2003.
We have a Ex 2003 server, which is our single primary server and also have a Ex 2007 server, in which all roles have been removed with the exception of the mailbox role. No mailboxes reside on the Ex 2007 server. Public Folders are the only holdup from removing the mailbox role that I can see. When removing via Add/remove programs, I get the error during the readiness check: Uninstall cannot continue. Database 'Public Folder Database': The public folder database "server\public folder storage group\public folder database" contains replicas. Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database."Trying to move them doesn't seem to be working as that gives me a different error using the shell. Can anyone give me some assistance on how to remove these so I can remove this server and continue using Ex2003 for the time being? I don't have a large public folder database, I may have 3 or 4 calendars in there shared, but if need be i'll just blow it all away and create new ones as I have them exported.

Could you let us know what is the reason to uninstall EX2007? Did you tried below? How to Remove a Public Folder Database in Exchange Server 2007 http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/07/09/445967.aspx Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Cost. We are a small shop of 200 mailboxesand don't need/want the complexity it or 2010 requires. 2003 is working fine for us and likely will not upgrade until we must.My error when removing via shell:[PS] C:\Documents and Settings\exadmin\Desktop>Remove-PublicFolderDatabase -Identity "EXCHANGE\Public Folder Storage Group\Public Folder Database"Remove-PublicFolderDatabase : The public folder database "EXCHANGE\PublicFolder Storage Group\Public Folder Database" contains folder replicas. Its been about 24 hours, and i've ran the remove replica command about 3 times. So far, I still can not move them from 2007 server to allow me to uninstall it. This is what I am using, plus the input from previous posts.Method 2, gives me an error and will not allow it. Your profile is not configured. An unexpected, unknown error has occurred.Microsoft Exchange Server Information StoreID: 8004011c-0521-00000000ID no: c1050000Exchange System Manager==================================================== Remove the replicas from the public folder store You must use one of the following methods to remove the replicas from a public folder store. After you use one of these methods, you must wait between 15 minutes and two hours for the moves to be completed physically. Method 1: Use the MoveAllReplicas.ps1 script You can use the MoveAllReplicas.ps1 script to change the server in the replica list for all public folders to another server. Move to the command prompt at the Exchange Command Shell, and then use the script. To do this, follow these steps: Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Exchange Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Shell. At the MSH prompt, change to the following folder: Drive_Letter:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts Run the following command: MoveAllReplicas.ps1 -Server Source_Server_Name NewServer Target_Server_Name Note The source server must be an Exchange 2007 mailbox server that contains a public folder store. The target server must be an Exchange server that contains a public folder store. Method 2: Use Exchange System Manager in Exchange 2003 If you are running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 in the organization, you can move the replicas from the Exchange System Manager in Exchange 2003. To do this, follow these steps: Start Exchange System Manager. Expand Administrative Groups, expand First Administrative Group, expand Servers, and then expand the Exchange Server 2007 object. Expand First Storage Group, right-click the appropriate public folder store, and then click Move All Replicas. In the Move All Replicas dialog box, click the Exchange server to which you want to move the replicas, and then click OK. After you use one of these methods, you must wait for the next instance of public folder replication to complete before the public folder replicas are removed. You can verify the status by using the Get-PublicFolderStatistics command that is mentioned in the "Verify the contents of the public folder store" section.====================================Results fromGet-PublicFolderStatistics for today...[PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts>Get-PublicFolderStatistics Name ItemCount LastAccessTime---- --------- --------------EX:/o=First Organization/ou=Exchange Adm 0 9/25/2009 1:00:00 AMinistrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)EX:/o=First Organization/ou=Exchange Adm 0 9/25/2009 1:00:00 AMinistrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)globalevents 0 9/25/2009 12:23:40 PMinternal 0 9/25/2009 12:23:40 PMOWAScratchPad{BFF41211-78AF-4961-938C-A6 0 9/25/2009 12:23:40 PM7CB91999A9}StoreEvents{BFF41211-78AF-4961-938C-A67C 0 9/25/2009 12:23:40 PMB91999A9}Default 0 9/25/2009 12:23:40 PMexchangeV1 401 9/25/2009 12:23:40 PM [PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts>===================Again....any help would be appreciated................

Hi,If there is no important contents on the Public Folders, I suggest we delete the Public Folder Database directlyby using ADSI Edit tool, then try to uninstall Exchange 2007 via Add/Remove programs. For the ADSI Edit tool, please refer to the below article to find the installation file: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/ebca3324-5427-471a-bc19-9aa1decd3d401033.mspx?mfr=trueThanks Allen
