Removing Outlook from an Exchange 2000 Server.
Hi I have an Exchange 2000 Server that has outlook 2000 installed on it right now. I have read that you must remove outlook and than reinstall Exchange 2000 for MAPI to work right. My question is this if I reinstall Exchange 2000 like I have read will it cause any damage to the Mailboxs and Public Folders that are being used right now. Every thing is working ok right now but I would like to have outlook off of the server.Thank you for your help.

I would suggest that you take a backup of the database using NTBACKUP.http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003-Backup-Restore-NTBACKUP.htmlhttp://www.petri.co.il/backup_exchange_2000_2003_with_ntbackup.htmThen you can consider removing exchange and office then installing it back. Also the easier option would be dismounting your stores and then copying the edb and stm files to another location. Post re installation you can get the database back.If you have DC on another box, then consider using the disaster recovery switchExchange 2003 Disaster Recovery Operations Guide http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125070(EXCHG.65).aspxRecovering a Failed Exchange 2003 Server Using the Disaster Recovery Switchhttp://www.petri.co.il/exchange_disasterecovery_switch.htmAlso that scenaio that you are in is not supportedMicrosoft does not support installing Exchange Server components and Outlook on the same computerhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/266418Harpreet Singh Khandiyal (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375)

I don't think you will have to re-install the Exchange. Just uninstall the Outlook and reboot the box. and then apply the EX2000 Service packs to patch the MAPI32. Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Hi,Below steps are for your reference:1. Perform a system backup on the Exchange Server 2000.2. Remove Outlook 2000 from control panel. 3. Insert Exchange Installation CD and select "reinstall" to reinstall the Exchange Server 2003. This make sure that Exchange Server installs a correct copy of the Mapi32.dll file in the Winnt\System32 folder.4. Re-apply Exchange Server 2000 and reboot the server at non-business time.ThanksAllen
